İki mısradan meydana gelen nâzım parçası. Divan edebiyatında nâzım birimi sayılan beyit, aynı vezinde olan ve birbiri peşinden gelen iki mısradır. Çoklukla anlamın tamamlandığı bir bölüm Beyitin bir nâzım birimi olarak kabul edilmesi yüzünden, divan edebiyatı şiirlerinde konu birliği pek az görülür.
Divan şairinin bütün düşüncesi, beyitleri meydana getirecek kafiyelerle ikişer mısra söyleyebilmekti. Divan edebiyatındaki bu şiir anlayışı, bizde Edebiyat-i Cedide ile değişmeye başlamıştır. Anlamın bir beyitte tamamlanmasının şart olmadığı sonraki beyitte, hattâ daha sonraki beyitlere geçebileceği hakkındaki örnekler, bu edebiyat akımı ile edebiyatımızda gelişmiştir.
Böylece, bir nâzım şeklinde konu birliğine önem verilmesi yoluna geçilebilmiştir.
